Ice Fishing

Chena Lakes, North Pole

Once the lakes have frozen for the winter many Alaskans head out to chase the poor, chilly fish.

Once the group has assembled, the need for supervisors increases. A supervisor to driller ratio of 5 to 1 is ideal. Without a power auger, it takes a while to get through 36+ inches of ice.

Like a scene from Grumpier Old Men, pops waits for a strike.

And I wait for a strike...the more focus the better. Fish know when you aren't paying attention!

While the guys wait and wait, mom cleans up on the small, stocked arctic char. I suppose that small is better than nothing.
